Additional hardware you will need#
Before we proceed, we need the following additional hardware to properly communicate with SimpleSwitch™ devices.
A RS232 adapter, e.g. standard conform USB-to-RS232 adapter
An Ethernet cable (CAT5 or better)
suitable SD-Card
Caution
Be sure to pick an USB-to-RS232 adapter that supports at least 5V signals. 1.8V (and even 3.3V) adapters may not work.
A known to be good adapter can be found here
SD-Card recommendations
We recommend using UHS-I (or better) SD-Cards between 8-32GB capacity. Cards above 32GB might face compatibility issues on some SoMs.
Connecting the hardware#
With the null modem cable connect the
RS485/RS232 Connecter X1102
connector of the base board with the RS232 adapter on your computer’s endConnect the
ETH0
port of the base board with a network with the help of the Ethernet cable
Optional but recommended hardware#
If you can’t connect the device to your network, due to e.g. corporate policies, we recommended to have an additional wired network interface available on your computer. That could be for instance an USB-to-Ethernet adapter.
SimpleSwitch™ devices support up to 1GBit/s standard Ethernet.
